Aquarium Air Pumps

All aquarium fish need a good supply of oxygen in the water. This usually means that you'll need an air pump. The air pump sits outside the tank, ideally above the water level. A hose leads form the air pump to an air stone in the tank and air is forced along the tube and into the stone. From there it bubble s up through the water adding air as it goes.

If you put your air pump below the water level of the tank then you should use a non-return valve that sits in the air line between the pump and the stone. This means that if the air pump is stopped that water can't travel along the air line and into the pump, causing damage.
